The Mob & Shane Gillis

The algorithms of liberal social media are on fire.  Mobs have gathered on the virtual lawn of Saturday Night Live with torches.

Shane Gillis’ six-and-a-half-minute long monologue contained the following ugly statement, “women dress like whores.”

This has created solidarity within liberal circles.  The liberal mainstream media can’t get enough. Name any publication and they’ve covered the misogyny and horrors of Gillis – to name a few: The Washington Post, The New York Times, Global, NBC, MS Now, CTV, USA Today…

Canadian actor Dan Levy has become the champion of the mob saying he is “speechless” because SNL aired the word – and because of Levy’s inability to speak he decided to post, “Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores.”

Liberals across the nation are praising his bravery with some version of the same memes:  “In a world full of Shane Gillis, be a Dan Levy.”

As a comment on mob justice:  It’s clear that most commentators haven’t actually watched the monologue before joining the mob denouncing him.

It would be way more effective to critique the ridiculousness in calling women whores immediately after his opening story showing empathy for women.

Gillis opened by speaking about being extremely out of shape and following advice to go hiking.  He empathized with a woman who appeared scared as he came out of the trees looking crazy.  In his efforts to provide assurances of her safety, he found his sweating and panting likely had the opposite impact.

To properly criticize Gillis, one could easily identify that perhaps women feel that way because men are okay with calling them “whores.”

However, nuance and context have nothing to do with justice in today’s world.

The Privilege of Word Police

I hope those that know me – know that I don’t enjoy such crass descriptions of women.  The timing is also questionable given the public outcry over an Ivy League institution’s handling of allegations of gang rape.   Any aspect of society that objectifies women is fair game for criticism.

With that said, the more troubling aspect is the fact that this is what western society targets its resources against – a single word by a comedian and other words they dislike.

I’ve seen threads where the left has created “Neopronouns” (ze, zirs, ce, cirs, eir, ver, nemself…) that they expect to be used.

One commenter stated that for greater simplicity he would be using “they” for everyone instead of “Ze.”

The mob attacked him calling him a “Nazi,” “homophobe,” “TERF,” someone whose hero is JK Rowling and Hitler.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have neoconservatives wanting to ban the use of words like “river” “sea” “Palestine” “Islam” “Jihad” as being offensive and hateful.  Folks that use those words are being rounded up and arrested in much of the western world.

I find both groups of people laughably privileged, out of touch with the real world, and quite frankly insignificant to the progress of humanity.

If words enrage you, then surely you can muster up the courage to bottle-up that energy and use it for the real fight of demanding all humans have access to the basic necessities of life.

American Psychologist Abraham Maslow is most famous for, “Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.” There are five levels of needs that humans must receive in a specific manner:

Physiological (oxygen, food, water, shelter, sleep);

Safety (security, stability, health);

Love and Belongingness;

Esteem (self-respect, status, confidence); and

Self-Actualization (reaching your full potential and meaning).

It’s infuriating that liberals think they are fighting the good fight with an Ukraine flag in their bio as the west funnels billions to that country.

How can I take that person seriously when they yell and scream about being upset that “whore” was used on television- while never saying anything about Israel decapitating a Palestinian child on your screen.

It’s not bravery to yell at a blue-collar comedian – no matter how offensive they are – if you’re going to remain on the sidelines for the issues where your voices are needed the most.

So many liberals will call themselves allies and march in pride parades while saying nothing about:

Israel’s genocide and apartheid of indigenous Palestinians – and local laws outlawing its protest.

The lack of clean drinking water for indigenous communities.

Carney gutting the constitutional requirements to consult indigenous communities. Reconciliation means nothing more than a land acknowledgement when Canada just runs environmental havoc upon the indigenous land.

Police budgets keep growing at the expense of community programs amid growing police brutality.

Trillions are spent on the countless American bombing campaigns that kill, create refugees of millions of people, and foster terrorism that makes us all unsafe.

Who’s more progressive? Liberals or conservatives?

Many news stories reference that Gillis belongs to the tyrants of the Rogan-Sphere, a group of male comedians & podcasters who include the likes of Joe Rogan, Tony Hitchcliffe, Theo Von, Andrew Schulz, Ari Shafir and Brendan Schaub.  You know those conservative hacks that stumped for Trump and liberals define as backward.

When my family is in danger, I’ll choose a conservative neighborhood who speaks up for basic human rights over a liberal who remains silent except on safe issues that they use to market their progressiveness.

It’s the likes of Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan and Theo Von who have conservative values that I detest.

However, they’ve all spoken up against issues when they mattered the most, and platformed those speaking against the modern day Holocaust.

In contrast, CBC or BBC news rarely goes beyond calling everyone an antisemite for protesting the genocide.

How can someone care about women being disrespected when women are being slaughtered across Palestine?

The focus on superficial justice benefits the war mongers and AI oligarchs.

Those in power love fights about Shane Gillis because that means nobody is focusing on the war machine. Performative liberalism keeps the masses away from their doorsteps.

Liberal voices remain silent when it really matters and later claim they’ve always been against the injustice when it’s safe to do so.

Dan Levy had never said anything about victims of Israel’s ethnic cleansing – how brave.

Martin Luther King Jr’s Letter from Birmingham Jail will always replay in my mind.  It so perfectly sums of the ineffectiveness of liberalism.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice
